CASE HISTORY: The first locker for shopping installed in Italy features the Fiorini brand at its core.

A fully customised product for an innovative project: the creation of an automated locker for on-line food shopping pick-up purposes.

Fiorini contributed to the implementation of the first locker for shopping in Italy which was launched in the summer of 2020 in Pioltello (Milan) by one of the leading large-scale retail brands. The locker basically acts as a mini storage compartment, in which the shop assistants place the shopping ordered on-line by customers, until it is picked up by the latter using a special release code. The locker must, therefore, be able to preserve the shopping at two different temperatures, a feature required to guarantee the highest quality both of fresh products (between 0° and 4°) and frozen products.

To fulfil this requirement, Fiorini partnered with the locker designers and created a fully “tailored” 1000L chilled water storage tank with 60 mm insulation in closed-cell cross-linked polyethylene foam, designed to adapt to the overall dimensions and functionality of the storage compartment. The material of which the tank is made, a high-strength P275NH/ASTM structural steel, makes it suitable for temperatures as low as -15°C and, therefore, perfect for the locker cooling system.

A highly stimulating challenge from the very start which compelled Fiorini’s technicians to imagine, design and create something that had never been produced in Italy up until now. And that’s exactly how the future is built.
